John Kruer joined the violin section of Hong Kong Sinfonietta in 2014. Born in San Sebastian, Spain and raised in Jacksonville, Florida, USA, Kruer received a Bachelor of Music degree in Violin Performance from Eastman School of Music, where he studied with Oleh Krysa; as well as a Master's degree in Music and an Advanced Music Studies Certificate from Carnegie Mellon University, where he studied with Cyrus Forough and received a full tuition scholarship.
Kruer served as both concertmaster and section principal of student orchestras at Pacific Music Festival, Carnegie Mellon University, and Eastman School of Music. He has participated in summer festivals including Music Masters Course Japan, Britten-Pears Young Artist Programme, Sarasota Music Festival, and the Kneisel Hall Chamber Music School and Festival. In the USA, he has also played in Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra and regional orchestras in Pennsylvania, West Virginia and upstate New York.
